  The Independence Gem and Mineral Society was founded in February 1948 for the purposes of generating interest in the field of Geology. Its aims are to promote interest in Faceting, Fossils, Lapidary, Minerals, Art Metalcraft, etc., have classes, field trips and create public awareness and interest through its club programs, outreach to schools and libraries and through Gem and Mineral Shows.

  The Independence Gem and Mineral Society meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Hope-CPRS Gymnasium, 2425 S. Crysler, Independence, MO.(Click on the map image at the left for a more detailed map.)

  The Indpendence Gem and Mineral Society is sponsoring a beginning lapidary class on November 5, 7, 13 and 14, 2007 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and April 7, 9, 14 and 16, 2008 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center in Independence, Missouri. Learn to cut and polish stones and create gems of your own! There is a $20 fee for the class payable to the Sermon Center and a $5 fee for materials that you will need to pay the first night of the class. Don't wait...call now to sign up.
